The European Commission has launched a public consultation on regulating methane emissions in the energy sector. The aim of this 12-week consultation is to help the Commission prepare proposals for new EU legislation to further reduce methane emissions in the energy sector. Reducing methane emissions is one of the priority initiatives in the European Environment Agreement, and the EU’s methane strategy highlights the potential to contribute to meeting key climate goals, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The methane strategy aims to limit global warming by 2050, improve air quality and strengthen the EU’s global leadership in the fight against climate change.
